The Dark Eidolon: A New Campaign

To look up into the night's sky
To see the stars [have] changed
To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am still the same
This mountain hollow that keeps me in a [suffocating] embrace
A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way
-Apex, by Unleash the Archers

Tides of bitumen colored clouds surged, then receded over the horizon.  An undulating cycle which belonged to no season save the cruelest autumn.  Hateful, merciless skies.  A ziggurat of shale shuddered beneath the oncoming wind; its uppermost stages shook the hardest, yet shook beneath no wind, but beneath the footsteps of the great Oracle Mulmak.

To your Brethren in the Dark: Character Archetypes

Into the night
My long suffering friend
We'll be reborn again
Right here where everything ends.
-Phoenix, by Satyricon

The nightmare of Fiddler's Green must be ended.  A story of long ago where few stood against many.  Four warriors stood alone against thousands.  Whether in life, or in death, their light will be passed to all of those who follow in their footsteps.

To Your Brethren in the Dark: A New Campaign

Forgotten days,
Forgotten thoughts,
In the hour of Chaos,
Pass a torch to your brethren in the dark
-To your Brethren in the Dark by Satyricon

During the black tide which ebbs lowest betwixt night and nether night, your grandfather clock peals a haunted thirteen chimes.  The New Year races over the horizon upon black wings.  In the shivering realms of farthest North, the witchmen are unfurling their burning standards to march under the banner of Asavar Kul, the Everchosen.  You have heard rumors of a man who proclaims himself the chosen of Sigmar, a man who professes his holiness even as he leads thousands to certain death.  Holiness, of what benefit is it?  How can purity be more desirable than that which all men truly crave: wealth, power.
You light a candle and set it in the bare window casement.  The bullseye panes of glass behind it ripple in the faint glow it casts.  Until tonight, you had been prepared to throw your lot in with the stream of brigands, highwaymen and thieves making the sullen journey to Mordheim.  Then the courier arrived - bringing a letter from Elector Count Fitzpatrick himself.  You clutch the parchment in your pocket.  Now, everything has changed.
A wind sets the windowpanes rattling.  It carries the faint hint of blood.  War is coming.  Whether by the twisting flames of Chaos or the brilliant fire of Sigmar, the land will burn.  Only those with resources to match that of kings will survive.  You extinguish the candle.  The Light of Sigmar, the Light of Chaos - let them blaze against one another in the high inferno of endless battle.  What does it matter?  You've always preferred the dark.

Million-Colored Sun: Intro to Driving

Driving a race car is like dancing with a chain saw.
-Cale Yarborough

In preparation for Million-Colored Sun, we are presenting simple rules for vehicles.  If these seem similar to those from Gorkamorka - then that is sheer coincidence.

Million-Colored Sun: Starfire Cr.32 Biplane

To be a good fighter pilot, there is one prime requisite - think fast, and act faster.
-Major John T. Godfrey, USAAF

The Starfire Cr.32 Biplane was typical of the fighters utilized by the Loamhedge Renegades: compact, robust, highly maneuverable- and heavily armed.  They were resilient and forgiving for new pilots, but could still be deadly in the hands of an ace.

Million-Colored Sun: Test Game - Loamhedge Rescue

In a life and death struggle, we cannot afford to leave our destinies in the hands of failures.
-Clement Atlee

The hideous bio-mechanoids of the Wizard advance.  The large central figure is a Javelin-Class Heavy Combat Servitor.

In the closing days of the conflict between the Wizard and the Defenders of the Starlight Forest, battles were often small but exceedingly lethal.  Advanced combat bio-units clashed with elite Loamhedge warriors and a motley flotilla of aircraft.

Million-Colored Sun: The Air Screw

I have discovered that a screw-shaped device such as this, if it is well made from starched linen, will rise in the air if turned quickly.
-Leonardo da Vinci

In the closing days of the war between the inhabitants of the Loamhedge Forest and the Wizard, the conflict devolved into a series of running battles.  These deadly skirmishes were fought primarily by advanced combat servitors and the Loamhedge Patrol.  Since the Wizard had established many lines of defense along the ground, air combat grew to take on a larger role.  The artifice of the Loamhedge Forest was often primitive, but was deployed with a strategic eye toward effectiveness.  The Air Screw was a highly effective transport, easily able to duck beneath the canopy of the Starlight Forest.  Although unarmed, it proved a tenacious opponent for the Wizard.

Million-Colored Sun: Combined Flight Rules

Men were going to die in the air as they had for centuries on the ground and on the seas, by killing each other. The conquest of the air was truly accomplished.
-Au Temps des Carabines, by René Chambe

Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000 do a good job of streamlining rules and providing for ground movement.  In smaller skirmish games, however, their rules for flying models are a little dull.  They are appropriate for smaller flying creatures and possibly helicopters, but are not effective for models designed to move like airplanes.  Taking some "inspiration" from games like X-Wing and Star Trek Attack Wing, rules more appropriate for high-speed aerial combat were created.

Million-Colored Sun: Advanced Flight

Fight on and fly on to the last drop of blood and the last drop of fuel, to the last beat of the heart.
-Baron Manfred von Richthofen, known as "The Red Baron"

The previous rules - Lesson I: Intro to Flight - are sufficient to cover the basics; most airborne models in our campaign will not need anything more complex.  However, some airborne models - whether through dint of high speed, manueverability or outlandish construction - require more advanced rules.  This lesson covers loops, barrel rolls, airborne ordnance and other high-flying topics.

Million-Colored Sun: Intro to Flight

Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.
-Leonardo da Vinci

In preparation for the Million Colored Sun Campaign (anticipated launch date: early 2021), we are crafting and playtesting rules.  The campaign uses the Age of Sigmar rules - with some very limited modifications.  Age of Sigmar has rules for models which fly, but we wanted to add models which fly like airplanes - higher and faster; below are the basic rules for such models.

The rules presented here are presented as an Introduction to Flight.  They cover only the basics and are sufficient for simple flying models such as the Ornithopter (pictured above); an Advanced Course in flight will follow along with a course on weapons unique to aircraft.

Million-Colored Sun: New Units

You can see but you're blind
Someone turned the sun around
But you can see in your mind
The gates of Babylon
-Gates of Babylon, by Rainbow

Beyond the boarders of the Starlight Forest lies the unfathomable Sea of Sorrows.  Its grey waves crash against the shores with all the fury of a nightmare.  To face the horrors which haunt its reaches, new warriors will be required.  Only the strongest will survive.
